Back to Jaded Bum Music
Mel Holt, former president of SOR Records asked me to record
some of his songs using a "Cramer" treatment, produced by
Michael Henry Martin at Castle Sound in Abilene, TX.
He mentioned that if I had a song I'd like to pitch, to feel free
to add it to the tape he was going to submit to Floyd. This record
was Floyd's first release after ending his long career at RCA.
He finally had a major voice in selecting the songs
and co-producing the record. For those of you who may not know it,
Floyd was the piano player on all of the early RCA hits by Elvis Presley,
including "Heartbreak Hotel." His solo career is best remembered
by his hits "Last Date," (originally a vocal song by the late
Conway Twitty, who, by the way, was NOT married to Kitty Wells,
thus saving us from the hardship of holding back a grin
when we would have been forced to address her as Kitty Twitty),
AND Floyd's version of the song
"Theme from the Young and the Restless."
My song, "Cross Country" made the final cut,
got wonderful orchestration,
and still gets played in Canada, Switzerland, and the UK
even though the record may be out of print in the USA.
Go figure...
This page dedicated to Betty Woodle and Bev Wright,
Floyd's biggest fans.
Special thanks go to Mel Holt and Michael Henry Martin.
